Careers Counselling Appointments—Parents with their Student

As we move through the final term of 2024, we would like to invite you to participate in a Careers Counselling Appointment with your student. These sessions provide a valuable opportunity for both students and families to work together in planning for their future, ensuring they are well-informed and prepared as they navigate their final years of VCE and explore post-schooling options.

Benefits of Participating in a Careers Counselling Appointment:

1. Exploring Post-Schooling Pathways: Gain a comprehensive understanding of the various pathways available after secondary education, including university, TAFE, apprenticeships, and direct employment opportunities. This session will allow students to make informed choices about their career paths.

2. Meeting Prerequisites and Requirements: Ensure that your student is meeting the necessary prerequisites for their desired courses or careers. Early identification of any gaps or additional requirements can help avoid surprises and allow time for adjustments.

3. Understanding Changes in University Admissions: University admission pathways have evolved considerably in recent years, with an increased focus on factors beyond the ATAR, such as early entry programmes, SEAS applications, and recognition of extracurricular achievements. This session will provide insights into these changes, helping parents understand the broader picture.

4. Clarifying VTAC and SEAS Processes: Gain clarity around the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) application and the Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS), including how they can influence your student’s tertiary placement and the support services available to eligible students.

5. Navigating Career Clusters and Future Employment Trends: Discuss your student’s interests and strengths in the context of future job market trends, employability skills, and emerging industries. Understanding these trends can help ensure that your student’s choices align with a robust and adaptable career path.

Building Confidence and Support: Participating in the session empowers parents to support their students more effectively, fostering open communication and shared decision-making around future pathways. It’s a chance to collectively address any uncertainties and reinforce the family’s role in this important stage of development.

We highly value your input and believe that your engagement in the Careers counselling process is vital to your student’s success.
